The success story of
Liam Power
CURRENT POSITION
C-Category Instructor at Auckland International Pilot Academy (AIPA)
COMPLETED COURSES
NZ Diploma in Aviation Level 6 (Aeroplane Flight Instructor)

My journey with AIPA began in October 2023, where after taking a gap year I committed to studying aviation full-time. I started by completing all the theory exams, and later gained my Private Pilot Licence (PPL), Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR), and C-Category Instructor Rating.
As a young child, aviation was never a career I considered; however, in my early teenage years I had the opportunity to fly a Cessna 206 out of Ardmore, and after “catching the bug”, I had my mind set on a career in aviation and haven’t looked back since.
My favourite part of learning to fly was after getting my PPL; there’s nothing more rewarding than getting to take your first passenger for a flight and seeing your hard work pay off! Some of the biggest challenges I faced were training for my instrument and instructor ratings, but they were also some of the most enjoyable and fun parts of my journey in aviation.
After finishing my training, I have since become an instructor at AIPA, and I love sharing my passion for aviation with other aspiring pilots. My advice to anyone starting out would be to have the right attitude and to work hard. Learning to fly is challenging, but if you commit to it and give it your all, the sky’s the limit!
